PlugPlayer for iPad and TVersity

Postby Realworld » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:27 am

Hello!

I use the iPad version of PlugPlayer and TVersity 1.9.2 as media server. I can play audio and browse photos without any problem - but I can't view any video. Everytime I select a video from the TVersity server (I've tried many different formats) the screen just turns black and a second later the standard-screen of PlugPlayer UI returns. Is there any known issue with video playback?
(I can play all the videos on the iPad with the TVersity interface (Safari based))

Thanks for help.

If you can play the videos from the web interface, the should play within PlugPlayer; PlugPlayer just uses the iOS to play the videos.

It's possible that TVersity doesn't realize it's talking to an iPad when using PlugPlayer and is returning a different video format than when the web interface is used. Is there a way to configure TVeristy to tell it PlugPlayer is really an iPad?

TVersity shows "iPhone/iPad" on the status page - so I assume that it can detect the correct device type. In the meanwhile I've also tested the iPhone version of PlugPlayer and there's the same behaviour: Web interface with Safari works - PlugPlayer just flashes the screen and returns to the default view (also here TVersity states that it has detected an iPhone/iPad device).

Which version of PlugPlayer are you using? I can try to set up TVersity and see if I can reproduce the problem. I'm assuming it happens on every transcoded video file, correct?

Yes - it happens with every transcoded file. I'm using TVersity 1.9.2 and the latest PlugPlayer Software on iPhone (3.2.1) and iPad (3.2.0).

I installed TVersity 1.9.2 Pro, and unfortunately it seems fairly broken.

Most of the time, the URLs it sends to PlugPlayer are not transcoded for the iPhone. I even tried to play them on my Mac and quicktime wouldn't even play them. I tried to force Tversity to always transcode for the iPhone, and even then it would take videos encoded for the iPhone and try to transcode them to .ts files...

Have you tried contacting TVersity to see if they can help?
