Play Music While Texting?

I've noticed when I use PlugPlayer to play music on my iPhone 3G (running iOS 4.2.1) that it stops playing whenever I hit the menu button; or if I receive a text and choose to answer the text.

Is there a way to get PlugPlayer to continue playing music while I browse my phone or text message someone?

I believe the iPhone 3G cannot do multitasking using a stock iOS.
