streamed music from NAS, PP break song play spotty

Postby matse17 » Fri Mar 30, 2012 6:38 am

Network:
stream m3u music from NAS QNAP TS219P+ with Twonky Server 6.0.38, WLAN 300Mbit, IP touch iOS 5.01, PP4.01

I played around with any setting of PP but indepentent from that PP always break-up spotty playling m3u-playlist after a while, somtimes at first song, sometimes at song 8. It stops somewhere within the song without error-message. I already replaced WLAN-router, but still the same. QNAP and LAN is gigabit and very stabil.
I´m pretty sure that this did not happen in former PP version.

Any idea?

Not sure, but I guess that you already guess, it's most likely related to the network. But perhaps, it's not your WLAN, but iOS turing something off for some reason. Can you try playing your playlist with the iPod plugged in and the screen unlocked the entire time?

If that has the same result, are you playing the playlist directly? Or are you playing the contents of the playlist? (Do you see the songs in the PP playlist? or just a single entry for the playlist?)

hi abramsh,
what do you mean with
...IP-touch is pluged in

Concerning your question, yes, I can see the songs of the m3u in the browser of PP

well, then change the buffer size back :)

I mean't, but it into power and keep the screen unlocked the entire time while it is playing to see if has something to do with the OS trying to save power at the wrong time.

I did set buffer back to 20. There are two things what changed a) now PP always break-up with an error-message, which 8. b) the time till error 8 occurs is longer. Before that, error 8 came constantly in the break between end of first song and the beginning of the next song. After I set buffer down to 20 error 8 occurs spotty but not within a song.
It does not seem to have anything to do with OS-activities, because I did plug in and unlocked screen, could not see any OS action but same error 8. :(

we should rule out some odd behavior of the nas. Can you try to put a few files on a PC with WMP and see if it works better for you in that case?

Hi,
I run twonky-app w/o any problems. The only difference is, twonky-app does not have random play and the breaks are very long 6-10 sec, but it does not break like plugplayer is doing. I hoped you could fix it with the current release, but it is still the same. Minewhile I´m very disappointed of plugplayer and its support-performance. I can not understand why this is such a challenge, it can not be rocket science, can it? I already sent you log-file in the past (and I would do it again, when it helps) but no solution.
The reason why I stick on plugplayer is the random-play-function, which I can not effort to miss. I really would appreciate you improving the support and focus on that topic. I´m definitely not the only one streaming a QNAP-NAS libary with 10000+ mp3s and the ipodtouch should have sufficient hardware to load such a playlist.

You're not the only one streaming from QNAP, there are many thousands of PlugPlayer users on QNAP, but you appear to be the only one with this problem which would indicate it is something specific to your environment. My suggestion is still to rule out odd behavior with the NAS, and if that has the same issues, then rule out wifi.
