No Media found

Postby HerrJott » Sat Feb 26, 2011 4:19 pm

Hi - just bought the app.
It found both the Media Server and the Media Renderer by itself - no problem. But when I want to browse the media library on the server, nothing happens...

What server are you using? And what do you mean by "nothing happens?" what exactly to you see on the browse tab?

I have a QNAP TS-212.
Nothing happens meant that it seems to be searching for media (the animated bar is "moving") but it doesn't fidn any.
I left it running for a long time (10 minutes).

I've recently seen a bug where this would happen, but I'm not able to reproduce it. Do you have a 2nd server on your network (or can you set one up temporarily) such as WMP 12, etc? If so, if it's the same bug I saw, you can switch from one server to the other and back and this seemed to clear the problem.

I have now found a way to work around it: use TwonkyMedia Server. Maybe I was supposed to do that in the first place...? Anyway, I can see and access all the music on the server now.

Two more things, though:
- an option to choose music by "album interpret" would me great
- now my device won't find My WD TV Live as a Media Renderer anymore...?!

I'm having the same type of problems when I access the server remote.

I have played files no problem with the media server being auto found where the address location is 192.168.1.101 etc. and worked fine. I then turned off the auto find, Deleted the server and added with Device url (with dns addres: http://myserver.dyndns.com:1234/devic...xml). Everything works fine when my phone is connected to my wifi that houses the server, but when it is trying to connect via 4G or from different Wifi server, when I go to browse, it continues to search but never lists any files. I've even adjusted the timeout to 60, to no avail.

I'm not sure if this is the PlugPlayer or is this a glitch with the Twonky server? Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,

My setup:
HTC Senstation phone - 2.3 android
Buffalo NAS (Running Twonky 4.4.8)
Linksys Router (Port Forwarding/DNS server update)

It could be any number of problems.

What happens when you try that URL in the phones browser while on the 4G or other wifi?
Does the server have a password?

I had some time to today to play around with it. And still can't figure it out. I have not added a password to limit one of the potential problems, once I know it is working, i'll deal with adding security.

Here's the various attempts I made to resolve the issue.
-I tried accessing http://mydns:port/DeviceDescription.xml from the phone web browser with wifi off but it returned a 404 error, connected back to into my wifi, accessed page http://mydns:port/devicedescription.xml and viewed the file with no problems.
-Disabled phone wifi, went to http://mydns:port/ and loaded the twonky browser with no problems, could view the various files through the browser.
-I have also tried turning auto detect back on, then changing the base url to the http://mydns:port too. Once again, works while phone connected to my wifi, but once I shut off wifi on the phone, browse no longer works.

This is where it starts to get really weird, when using the base url...
I start plugplayer with the phone wifi on and being able to browse and access the server. I then select a song and plugplayer creates a playlist. I started playing the song and shut off the wifi on the phone. the song continued to play... went to plugplayer playlist and selected another song. That song started to play with no problems. I then selected browse, pressed back, to the parent folder. Selected a different folder, the status bar at the top looked like it was updating and nothing loaded. The bar eventually went solid grey and nothing was listed. It seems I can play songs that have already been loaded to the plugplayer playlist, but I am unable to browse the server to add to the existing playlist. I also created multiple plugplayer playlists from the same server. with the wifi off, I was able to switch between the various playlists.

Since I can access the the twonky browser from outside the network, not sure why I can not pull the devicedecription.xml file remote too. I've spent a lot of time looking up resources for this, but still haven't found a resolution. Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you got the capitalization right on the device description URL? Are you forwarding the same port you use locally outside your network?
