Droid keeps losing media server and other renderers

Postby hugoread » Mon Nov 28, 2011 3:29 am

Just to say before I log these bugs that I love your product and I use it both on my iPod Touch G2 and on my droid phone. I serve my music using my QNAP NAS box that has Twonky Media running on it.

Anyway, here are an issues I've lived with for ages: OLD BUG - droid keeps losing media server and other renderers

I can't say for certain this is a PP bug, but anyway.... My iPod always has my Twonky Media Server in the devices list and works no problems. My droid however, sometimes has it, and sometimes it greys out, suggesting it's not available. A good 50% of the time in fact. The wifi connection is full power and the wifi isn't dropping out and the Twonky media server is definitely there and running (the iPod never loses it). It makes using the droid really difficult and sometimes impossible. The droid often loses connection to the iPod too, when I want to use my phone as the controller and the iPod as the renderer. I realise there could be causes other than PP, but it seems the most likely, especially as the server is definitely not dropping out and the wifi connection to the droid is high strength.

Thanks very much. Let me know if you'd like any more details.

Does it disappear while you're using it and disconnect you? Or does it just grey-out in the list while it isn't selected?

When I first start the app, sometimes Twonky Media Server is available and either it's already selected or I select it, but sometimes it's greyed out and not available and therefore I can't browse any music. It often flickers between blue and greyed out, so presumably the connection keeps coming and going. The iPod in the same room always has the media server rock solid.

How quickly does it flicker?

What is happening is that in the back ground the app periodically searches for new devices and also tries to connect to devices it already knows about to check if they are "alive". Typically you'd see something like this with a wifi problem, but you said your iPod is working.

One thing you can try is turning off device discovery in the advanced settings and see if that helps or not.

Sometimes it flickers quite quickly, othertimes it's on for a few seconds, off for a few seconds....

To be honest it seems to be more off than on at the moment. With my current problem on the iPod version (stuck playlist causing crash) I now can't play music at all.

I'll try turning off device discovery to see if that helps.

Thanks,
Hugo.
